Can You Leave The Berkley Campus?

The Berkeley Housing Assistance Program, co-established by the ASUC Office of Senator Grottel-Brown and Berkeley Housing, provides students with one-on-one support in navigating off-campus housing searches. A team of students managed and trained by the Cal Rentals office is available to answer questions and provide assistance. Students living in these housing options can expect to pay about $4,500 per semester between dues, room and board, and other amenities. For new students, Cal Rentals is recommended for off-campus housing.

The Berkeley Housing Assistance Program primarily serves UC Berkeley students, but full-time students from any accredited institution of higher education are eligible for off-campus housing. The program offers an array of housing options and serves as a jumping-off place for lifelong friendships. All new students will receive housing priority, and all incoming freshmen are generally guaranteed a spot for on-campus housing.

In December, UC Berkeley will notify applicants via email that they have received their application. The regulations address the rights and responsibilities of guests/non-affiliates and members of the University community, including faculty. RSOs are welcome to table inside campus Dining Halls, but must request 3-5 days in advance via email.

Berkeley College allows students to earn their degree on campus in NY and NJ, plus online. The Board’s primary mission is to assist the university in securing gifts, trusts, and bequests to nourish programs throughout the campus.

International students interested in attending Berkeley College can learn about their academics today. Campus housing costs an average of $22402 a year, and the program encourages students to find experiences through their office that challenge and support their learning.

How hard is it to get housing at Berkeley?

Incoming first-year students are guaranteed a one-year housing offer if they meet all deadlines and select “any room size, any location” as one of their housing preferences. The Housing application asks questions to match students with suitable roommates, and they can request roommates by creating a roommate group. The group leader must invite each student using their Student Identification (SID) number and confirm their membership for the office to review their request.

The housing office tries to match requested roommates, but may not match those who do not confirm their requests. Roommates do not need to be best friends, but they should be fair, honest, and considerate. Everyone must take responsibility for their behavior and share responsibility for a positive roommate relationship. Living in a shared space can be challenging, so understanding different values and compromise are key. It is important to complete the roommate agreement with detail and honesty at the beginning, and revisit it when things change.

  • This kind of authoritarian outlook from has only gotten worse since the 80’s. Radical social change has always come through civil disobedience. Laws are social constructs and are fluid, they change over time. It’s not an objective guide to morality. Yes, we have to set collective standards, and laws are a useful construct, but only when they are informed by evidence and rationality. We need to be flexible not only with our interpretation and enforcement of the law, but we must be willing to change laws in the face of growing dissatisfaction and obstinacy to them. Reagan views the law as intrinsic and enforces it with the belief that he is given some kind of divine authority from God. Not only is he inflexible, but his conception of authority comes from a hierarchical perspective, with power raining down from the top and the rest compelled to follow. The reality is the only society which can truly and logically account for the needs of its citizens is one where power is derived from the will of the people. In the United States, this has not truly been the case, though we delude ourselves into believing it so.
